Well the 2 time ex-Illinois governor, Rod Blagojevich (D), who brought scandal and shame to his state, was found guilty yesterday on the majority of the corruption charges that were against him. Blagojevich was convicted on 17 of the 20 counts against him which included wire fraud, attempted extortion, bribery, extortion conspiracy and bribery conspiracy. The most notorious one was trying to make financial gains from President Barack Obama's Senate seat he vacated when he became president. Last year as you may recall he had his first trial on the corruption charges but the jury could not come to a consensus and became a hung jury. This outcome was much different and it came as a true shook to Blagojevich, who for nearly 3 years has repeatedly professed his innocence where anyone would listen to him. Which included reality TV shows, talk shows, newspapers and finally in court. Blagojevich's attorneys tried to use a defense of their client was just a politician of rambled on and on and that he was only thinking out loud when he was caught on many FBI tapes which he was recorded on. Illinois has seen its fair share of scandals and Blagojevich now has the distinction of being a back to back Illinois governor who has been found guilty of corruption. George Ryan (R), is currently spending 6 and half years in a federal prison for corruption preceding Blagojevich. Blagojevich sentencing will be later this year and many predict he will get the book thrown at him with probably the maximum sentence of 10 to 15 years in prison. When the verdict was handed down, Blagojevich faced one of his attorneys and asked "What happened?" Well what happened was you got caught Mr. Blagojevich and know it is time to pay the piper. I hope it was worth 10 to 15 years of your life. Even preceding the verdict Blagojevich seemed to realize his pending fate as he and his wife was noticeably pale. The jury's verdict highlighted this debacle of the miss use of power of Blagojevich when he tried to sell President Obama's past Senate seat. Blagojevich who is currently 54 year-old told reporters while he was taken away from the courthouse that he was disappointed with the verdict and he was stunned by it.
