Romney has a rough road ahead to overcome.

With the recent announcement of Mitt Romney into the GOP presidential candidates he is already running into some heavy roadblocks. One of those roadblocks is his religious beliefs in the Mormon church. While that fact is enough to turn off many Americans not of that faith, it appears he is having trouble in his own party over it. Albeit the reasoning may be different, the problem is still looming over Romney because of the churchs stance on undocumented immigrants. A story broke in April of this year about how Mormon lawmakers voted to turn down legislation to help reduce undocumented immigrants in the workforce. Supposedly the Mormon church lobbied hard to get this legislation shot down because of their affiliation with undocumented immigrants being baptized by the Mormon church. Now with many Republican heads perking up because of these allegations many have started to question how the Mormon church could influence Romney if he did become President. Some extreme right wing Republicans have even questioned how he could be influenced on the issue of immigration and wonder how much say the church would have on his White House policies. Many people that lived in the 60's may recall that then President candidate John F. Kennedy had a similar problem. He too was questioned on his position of the Catholic Church and how it may affect his decisions and policies in the White House. Kennedy addressed this issue in a speech in West Virginia to try to put this concern to rest. Kennedy told the crowd that his first responsibility was to the Constitution and the American people, not to the pope in Rome. It is yet to be seen how Mr. Romney will address this issue. It will be one of the many tough hurtles he will have to overcome.
